Guess Who Bought a Baby Book Before She is Even Pregnant.... THIS GIRL!

I purchased this book off of Amazon this week. The Mr. and I have been talking quite a bit about getting our finances in order so that in a couple of years or so we can expand our family. I have been wanting to figure out costs of raising a child and doing it in an eco-fashion so when I saw that this book was coming out I knew that I wanted it.

I am sure once I get it I will be sharing tips and ideas that I get from it.

Random Question

The thought that has been consuming my existence as of late is this: How can we afford to ever have children?

The Mr. and I have been discussing the prospect of children since we got married and both agreed that we wanted to be married a couple of years before we venture down that road. This year will be our 2 year anniversary, and so we are starting to talk more about how we could swing have a child in the next year or two.

This is where I run into my question. How can we afford it? Everyone keeps telling me, "You just do." or "You never will afford it so just do it." These answers don't satisfy my constant urge to plan and fix.

SO my NEW questions are for you. How did you afford have a child? What did you do to prepare or save? What sacrifices did you have to make? What expenses surprised you? What ways did you cut corners?

The Mr. and I both know that we want to raise our kids as sustainable as possible. We know that we don't want or need a lot of stuff to clutter the house, and that we are willing to go without to make it work.

I am serious about this being an all consuming thought process for me right now. Even though we have no plans to procreate for a least a year or more, I am already planning....or worrying...however you look at it.

So, please, please, please, leave a comment and let me know how you made it. So that tomorrow I can get back to talking about things I can change or fix....like lightbulbs or toilet paper.

Eco-Nursery

I want this to be said right up front. The Mr. and I are not pregnant. Nor do we have the intention to becoming so for awhile (and by awhile I means years, not months.) We both feel the need to become more financially secure before we venture into that part of life.

Now, just because we aren't trying doesn't mean I'm not researching about what we will do when we do travel down that path. The Petersik's over at Young House Love recently announced that they are with child (a girl to be more precise). So a portion of their posts as of recent have been dedicated to getting their nursery ready for the little one.

I was thrilled when I saw that they were choosing to use eco-conscious furnishings and ideas for the most part as they did through the rest of their home.

I think they have some great ideas to keep things cheap but still safe and environmentally friendly. Of course you could make some things they do a little more eco-conscious, but it would definitely raise the price. And one of the main points of their blog is finding a budget friendly alternative to everything. I will definitely be borrowing their ideas in the future.
